We are excited about seeing you at the forthcoming InSITE Conference.
Here is some information that will make your conference trip even more successful and enjoyable:
Dress code Several people asked about the conference dress code. In Australia, formal dress is casual (outside the big cities). For men, I suggest trousers (but not jeans), and shirt – no tie necessary. For women, casual business clothes are appropriate. In other words, you do not need a suit and tie. The weather will be warm and sunny.
Weather Renay Buchanan (Chair, Conference Steering Committee) guarantees us wonderful weather. The weather has been above 10 degrees Celsius overnight and around 25-27 degrees during the day. Since it may get a little colder, bring a jacket or jumper and long pants for the night times. By 9:00 am, you will take your jacket off and not need a jumper at all. Sunset is around 5:45 so if walking home from the conference, you may need to put your jacket back on then. See http://www.w3.weather.com/outlook/travel/local/ASXX0100 for the current forecast.
Travel Notes Do you already have your flight reservations? Here is how we are getting to Rockhampton. We are taking a flight to Sydney. (Brisbane would have been closer, but we got a special deal to Sydney.) We compared prices on flights from there to Rockhampton with Virgin Blue, Jet Star, and Qantas using the Boomerang Pass and found the best price with Jet Star. We noted that prices varied considerably depending on the day and time of the flight. If you have some flexibility, look at a couple of different days.
From Airport From the airport, taxi is the best and about only way to get to your accommodation. (The city bus is not convenient to get to the accommodations.) The cost should be between $13-$15 AUD depending on the time your flight gets in; during peak work travel times (between 8-9 am and 4-6 pm), it could cost a bit more. Taxis are available outside the airport building all the time.
Share a Taxi Since many of you may be arriving on the same flights and the Rockhampton airport is small, look around to find other delegates with whom you can share a taxi.
Gear for Long Flights We are going to try some things to make our long flight more comfortable. I have put information about these at http://2004.informingscience.org/travel_gear.htm

Where should we deliver your conference material? If you have not already filled in the web form telling us where to deliver your conference material, do so now. The form also asks you whether want to go on the one-day after-the-conference bus excursion. You can pay for this at the conference, but please indicate your interest on the form so we can plan accordingly.
Maps We now have printable maps of Rocky and the campus on the web.
See you in Rocky,
